Our Story

How it all started...

In 1951, Reverend Verbal Bean came to the area of South Houston and Pasadena with a burden to reach our community. This outreach began in the garage of a home on Avenue 8th Street and quickly moved locations to our local elementary school. As the revival continued, locations changed until a permanent place of worship was established.  After a period of pastoral transition, Reverend Timothy Creel began leading the congregation in 1959. Under his leadership and support from an enthusiastic congregation, our current property at 2630 Allen Genoa was established and revival continued. In 1968, Reverend and Sister Wayne McClain assumed pastorate of Apostolic Temple and continued  furthering God's Kingdom in our community.  Even today, you will often leave our services being impacted by Bishop Wayne McClain's wife as she loves to serve in hospitality.  Though it may be a quick handshake at the door, you know you are uplifted in her prayers and inspired by her faithful journey to follow.

Expanding the vision...

The ministry of our elders is evident today from the burdens they carried for this truth to our community and globally.  As a result of our story, Apostolic Temple is a church built upon steadfast prayers and the unwavering walk of faith from our elders. In 2001, Reverend Orlin and Melody McClain began to serve aside Bro. and Sis. Wayne McClain in many responsibilities of leading  and their  commitments were devout from this moment forward. In 2009, Reverend Orlin McClain became pastor of Apostolic Temple, and Bishop Wayne McClain assumed the position of Senior Pastor until his passing in 2015. Pastor Orlin and Melody McClain continue to lead us with the same zeal, commitment, and anointing that has influenced Apostolic Temple since its beginning.  Through their leadership, growth as God has planned continues to prosper in a full family ministry, ministering to the needs of every age group and ethnic group.  In 2017,  our main sanctuary flooded during Hurricane Harvey. This natural disaster perpetuated God's vision into action and construction phases began in preparation for the harvest of souls of our community. Our previous sanctuary was completely remodeled by the end of 2020 into a beautiful and multifunctional family center that we call, Bishop's Hall.

Where we are headed...

We currently host services and Sunday school in our temporary building for phase two of construction.  Renovations and construction from campus maintenance, a coffee shop, and a new sanctuary are just God sized dreams quickly becoming our tomorrows. As Pastor McClain so often says, "Revival is here to stay!" God's promises are continuing to be fulfilled, and we get the honor of being an extension to His plan. This enthusiasm and vision from our Pastor has been transferred to each of the ministry leaders of Apostolic Temple Church. We look forward to the future of AT as God's Kingdom continues to advance in our community.
